Hi there. Always great to see now players finding RuneQuest and enjoying the game. You don't say which version you are playing, but I assume as you have just started, its the new rules published b y Mongoose? I think religion is usually quite specific to ones game world. If you are playing a fantasy earth type setting, then one would need to take some standard/deafult type cults (Moon Goddess, Earth Goddess, Sun God, Storm God, Sea God etc) and possibly customise them a bit to fit into a certain niche. Mars for example was in latter times most looked to as a War God, but in earlier times was also respected for blessing crops, ensuring good health etc.
If you are playing Glorantha, then there was the old Avalon Hill 3rd ed box set called Gods of Glorantha, which covered most major gods, both order and chaos, troll and human. Very good buy if you can get one (eBay) but not sure how compatible it may be with Mongoose RuneQuest. (So once again it depends on the version you are playing?)
I just checked the Mongoose site and there is a book called Magic of Glorantha which "may" be of assistance in this, though I can't comment for sure as I don't have it.
Hope this helps in some way, please give some feedback on your success/failure. Also what version and what world you are playing?
Tony
