I hope it's a good thing but since I can't seem to get a hold of a copy the playtest rules I can't really judge at this point. Based on what I've read in the runequestpt group on Yahoo! some things seem like they might be good.
The altercation between Steve Perrin and Mongoose over the magic system did not bode well, in my opinion. I know Steve wants nothing more than for it all to turn out well and he seemed like he was quite accommodating. Also that Steve is involved gives me hope – I have used his SPQR system which is different but close enough to RQ.
Feel free to send me a copy of the playtest if you want an honest opinion of the rules ;–)
