The History of our Rune Quest group and Gæa

Top level Gæa GÆA

Although I had heard of Rune Quest and seen it is shops during the late 1980's I only started playing the game, intermittently, in the early 1990's.

After a bit of a roleplaying drought, the core of our current group got together to start a Rune Quest campaign and have played rune Quest ever since.

After a few hiccups and short lived adventures, our Rune Quest group began to meet on a regular basis. A small continent on which to adventure was designed by Carol. This was originally a map of Germany with our own geographic and political details inserted. Since then the world has grown and now boasts three detailed continents and numerous islands. Other continents have been roughed up but have yet to be explored. Some histories have been written, old characters have become famous or infamous, NPC's have advanced, borders have changed a result of wars etc.

From all this came the desire for new monsters and races. (See creatures page). One of the first changes we made was to the orc, as listed in the Rune Quest Monsters Book. Tony loves orcs and was horrified to see them listed as a "degenerate form of elf". (Much as Tony loves orcs, he hates elves).

So soon followed an adjusted orc description. The statistics remained roughly the same, but their history was juiced up and Gæarised. So, what about the degenerate elf? Enter the goblin, which then required stats suitable for a degenerate elf. Things snowballed a bit and today we have statistics for a few mythical creatures and earth animals that were not listed in the original Rune Quest Monsters Book.

Update VII December MMIV

A scan of the one of the original (if not THE original) Gaia map as drawn up in Corel Draw circa 1993 has become available. It has a few pencil markings, wine stains, finger prints and just general marke sof wear and tear, but is still a great way of displaying how the world began.
