OK. -So many rules I haven't got right! sigh

Sounds very realistic; I'll try and remember to use it if the situation arises. I asume you mean this tactic is best used in battles with minimum 9 \ 10 using the shieltwall provided that they want to be on the defence, and the attackers still want to charge. Any less and I think the fight would tend to evolve into small clusters of 2 to 3 combatants. In bigger battles, I'm using boardgamerules for gamespeed's sake. I still have problems with adding the flavour of RQ magic into the "epic" scale.

I wasn't aware of the parrying or holding on fixed location rule, hence the suggestion. With the RQ rules, it doesn't become so relevant, since a failed parry then allways have to mean that the attacker goes around the shield entirely. (A low damage roll could of cource be interpited by the GM to be caused by a partial parry with a shield, but that is byond the scope of the discussion.)
I still feel that it should be more detailed rules on the shields. I've seen my "Mentor" shattering a viking roundshield in 3 blows with a "Norwegian long sax"(a one edged sabre'ish vikingsword), and I've seen speardudes thrusting their spear through the wooded part of the shield, then stepping on the spear as they draw an axe, sax or sword so that the shield is forced down by the weight of the attacker. If you aim for the shield, I think it's relevant, mabye not if you try to get the dude.
