Language skills

I have some house rules of my own! I think that the language skills are so different from the regular skills, that it should have skill increase boxes. But since 30% is the averidge level of a peassent's mothertounge, I find that rolling D100 for skill increase abit unrealistic. So I apply a 2d10 + 1d12 -2 skill roll for languages. So say the dwarf Asgrind redbeard have 07% in tradetalk, I let him get a skill increase roll after he rolled good on a tradetalk roll, (he managed to convince an innkeeper that he had meant to pay, but that his money was in his cart outside; rolling 05 on a 2d10+1d12-2) He then rolls the 2d10etc. If the result is 01 - 07, he doesn't gain, if he rolls 08 -30, he gets a +1d6 or +3 advance in tradetalk, realizing an important grammatical principle or an essential word, etc.

Now take Marcus Damaskus, a young nobleson from Carmania with a Pelorian skill of 24 (allmost as fluid as a peassent from outside Glamour) He encounters the local Lunar militia, and manages to impress them on some pelorian language matter (note how he with a 24 skilllevel needed a much harder task to need a skillroll) he rolls 22, a success. He then gets the skill increase roll, but have to roll 23 - 30 on the dices to get +1d6\+3 increase to his language. In order to rais his language skill above 30, he have to go to school. (one could maximum reach mabye 35 with experience rolls if he had 29, and then rolled 6 on 1d6, and you allso add the communication modifier, giving a natural talent in languages perhaps over 40% in a foregin language.

I think language skills this way becomes more useful, and I have to stress that this counts for speaking only. I'm considering it to count on writing \ reading as well, but haven't decided yet. Any comments?
