I love the spells in Call of Cthulhu! They take place in a setting where working magic isn't as commom as it is in Glorantha. The spelldescriptions reflects this, and are often very funny and concrete compared to the very generalized spelldescriptions in RQ
There are unice and very speciffic descriptions on summoning of speciffic creatures that aren't nessecarily similar, as they often are in RQ (Summon "specis") It allso incorporates rituals and describes concrete what you have to do in addition to the ruletecnichalities.
So in short; if you find the spelldescriptions of RQ rather dull, look for inspiration in the CoC -books! (Not so funny to get the oppertunity to learnd a troll spell if it turns out you're not in the right place, or cannot pronounce the words correctly, etc!)
The system is identical if you remove the sanityrules (or incorporate them to your RQ campagin....)
Dorastor land of Doom actually encourages people to get ideas to original chaosmonsters form CoC
