Well I've allso played both ARS magica and Mage; actually I've played over 14 roleplaygames over the years, and this have made me realise that there is no such thing as "the perfect rules"! If you like Mage and ARS magica way of rules better, why don't you stick to those games? I too like the rules in Mage and ARS magica, but i allso find the freedom exhausting sometimes. If it's only the runequest rules you fancy, I recomend that you simply adopt the rules you like in RQ to ARS magica rather than the other way around. If it is the GLorantha setting you're after, well then you have to do a heck of a lot of converting (there exists over 70 religions in Glorantha, each with their different spells; how to adapt them to a Mage way of thinking is more than my brain can cope with...) I've converted the Garou and the Bastet creatures and their Gifts to Call of Cthulhu, and believe me, those two systems are really not compatible!
