Oh? I've never heard that before. What I've heard is that we really don't know how sharp the swords were, and wether they were sharp all over or not. My longsword is about 1,7 kg. and 1.35m It's sharpend on the outer 20cm to such a degree that it'll cut you if you slide your finger along the edge while applying some preassure.
The club thing I don't get. I've never seen or heard of club'ish swords. Do you mean the 1.80m german zweihenders with two crossguards or the more exsotic hybrids between warhammers\swords?

What kind of sword? how long have you been training?
(-mabye off topic though, but I'd like to know.)

The following info suggests perhaps that the rapier never became a weapon for war. By the time of the war of the roses (english civil war), the rapier had established itself as the weapon of choise, (speculation; because it looked smooth\fashion, that it was light, that it was effective in duels?) -but that it quickly was replaced with the older 1h. sword designs as the war dragged on.
