My role-playing world has grown and at times I have had to add continents as the players get curious as to what is out there. Then I hit upon a delimma of how big the planet is - then why a planet?
Currently I am toying with the idea of a flat planet. It can grow at the whim of the gods and would make for quite the excitement when my 21st century players find their assumption put on their head as their boat falls off the edge of the planet.
I noticed Gaia is a globe and was curious as to why? It would fit better with Mythologies if it weren't a planet in a solar system.
Also - does the RuneQuest world not move forward in technology because magic eliminates some of the need - ie drive for medication when you have Heal spells - or is it that the basics of technology don't work.
I am starting to lean on the no Science type of world. This could be as drastic as shaped glass having no effect on vision - ie no spyglasses. I am not going that far - but I don't think combustion will work in the same way. Sure oil burns for lamps, but no black powder will cause an explosion. Hot air won't make a balloon rise. And hey, maybe wind will come from the trees.
Thoughts?
