You're free to think they're extremely important for the game. I don't. A spear -have been used as example earlier -when special successing can do 2d10+4 = max.24 dam! If that's not enough to illustrate that the spear hit in, get stucked and have to be wresteled out of the wound afterwards, well...then you need the impalingrules.
My point was that I didn't come up with houserules to increase the slashing aspeckt of fighting without further complicating the system + making it too lethal; therefore I chose to dispose of the rule, letting the spec. \ crit dam illustrate any stuck weapons pulled out again.

I think it does an additional d6 dam for pulling weapons out again after they're stuck. (I'll might let it pass for arrows with "fishhoock"-style (I'm norwegian and don't know what the shape of arrows is called in english)
If I was orced to retain impalingrules (for some wierd reason), I'd definately go for your suggestion to use the dam.bonus instead of 1d6.
