That's an excellent point; I had forgotten that. So I think you're right that it should not apply to parry or attack chances.
However, I still feel there is something missing from the skill, in that there is a bit more to martial arts than hitting and blocking. I'm inclined to think that there should be SOME sort of benefit when it comes to Grapple attacks and parrys, not in increasing the chance of success but in improving the effect of a success.
How about this: If a successful Grapple attack roll is also lower than the adventurer's Martial Arts skill, the adventurer's effective STR is increased for the purposes of immobilizing or throwing the opponent. The amount of increase is equal to the adventurer's Martial Arts skill divided by 5, rounded up.
