Indeed. It would not be very successful at all in small groups; it is a larger unit tactic.

That's "Strike to damage weapon", which already exists. Any blow which exceeds the armour points of the weapon, ALL of the excess points go to damaging the weapon. This is different from when the weapon just gets in the way, as in parrying. One good hit on a 10 AP viking round shield with, say, a bastardsword, doing maybe 13 points (assuming a decent damage bonus) will take the shield to 7 AP, at which point two more average hits will splinter it.

That was actually very similar to the principle behind the pilum. Just before rushing a shield wall, the legionnaries would hurl their pila, and immediately draw their gladii and charge. Their targets were probably not injured by the pila, having raised their shields, but now those shields are useless, with 2 ENC pila poking out of them. (Note the rule on "Parrying an impale with a shield", under which shields are useless if more than 2 ENC worth of weapons stuck in them, and at half their parry% if 1-2 ENC stuck.)
